WY Representation at District VIII
June 02, 2018
The AAP’s 2018 District VIII meeting took place at the brand-new facility near Chicago.
Highlights included an introduction to interim CEO Mark Del Monte and discussion of topics with Dr. Kraft and the president-elect candidates. The primary focus was reviewing the ALF resolutions.
Other specific areas of focus during the meeting were fundraising for chapters, as well as recruitment and retention. Thanks in part to collaborations with friends from other rural states in District VII, the meeting was especially helpful in gaining ideas for implementing programs and utilizing resources from the AAP. Several of these could greatly benefit our state’s pediatricians, and the district meeting at the new headquarters allowed us to join up with the staff directly in charge of those services. Many of the Academy staff were available to help discuss ideas and talk about possible barriers to implementation.
A few of the ideas and services include disaster preparedness, physician well-being (burnout), the CATCH grant program, and the ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) and teleECHO systems for our district and chapters to improve communication and collaboration also education in specific areas.
Awards for service were also presented recognizing both Dr.s Barry Wohl and Robert Prentice for their dedication to advancing the goals and mission of the academy.
